We need at least 4,000 people to submit testimony opposing Carleton Ching’s nomination to chair Dept. of Land and Natural Resources. This testimony must go through the legislative system. Writing the senators directly won’t count. The bill number is GM514.
For those who have already created a Hawaii legislative account, go to http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/submittestimony.aspx?billtype=GM&billnumber=514
Don’t forget to check OPPOSE. You don’t have to write much. Just that he is unqualified and has a conflict of interest.
Don’t forget that after you click Submit Testimony, there is still another check box and Submit you have to do on the next page. Check you got the email confirmation that you testimony went through. Contact Karen Chun at Karen@RedwoodGames.com if you have any trouble.
For those who have never submitted testimony before, here is the step by step. Creating your account should take maybe 3 minutes. Submitting testimony less – unless you write a lot.
How to submit testimony to the Hawai’i legislature
CREATE AN ACCOUNT (one time thing)
First you have to make an account. Go to http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/login/register.aspx
Fill in the form, check the box agreeing to terms and click Create User
You will see a message that they have sent you an email to confirm your account. It might be entitled: “Please Confirm Subscription to Receive Hearing Notices” and it will be from email@example.com.
Follow the instructions (click on the confirmation link)
After you click the link you’ll see a page saying, “User has been successfully confirmed. ”
Go to http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/submittestimony.aspx?billtype=GM&billnumber=514
It will ask you to sign in.
Then you will see a form for GM514. OR it might just ask you to type in the bill number. Put GM514 in the box
Be sure you oppose it (it defaults to just comment) You can either upload prepared testimony or type it into the box provided.
It is not necessary to write a lot. Simply opposing the bill is enough if other people are making your points. Add maybe a sentence unless you want to elaborate. The important thing is to get your opposition on the record.
Very important! You are not done! On the next page, you need to check the box saying that you understand your testimony will become part of the public record. Go ahead and click Submit after checking the box.
You should get an email verifying your testimony was submitted. If you don’t get the email, you might have forgotten the last step and should try again.
Please take the 5 minutes or so to do this. I have it on reliable authority that if we can get at least 4,000 people to submit opposing testimony, this nomination is dead. We’ve got 7,400 petition signers so let’s make this happen!
Thank you for all that you do,
